How to create your own token on Solana

Learn what a token mint is, how creation differs from launching a market, and what to check before using a token creation tool.

A token and a coin are not quite the same thing

SOL is Solana's native coin. A token created on Solana uses the network's token infrastructure. People often call these projects coins or memecoins in everyday conversation, but creating one does not mean building a new blockchain.

Each Solana token has a mint address that identifies it. Names, symbols and images are display information; they are not unique identifiers.

Choose the creation path that fits the goal

A launchpad combines token creation with a route into trading. That can be useful for a public memecoin launch. A developer can also create a mint directly using Solana's token tools, but creating a mint alone does not give the token a liquid trading market.

Before choosing a tool, understand its token program, supply settings and authority permissions. Mint authority controls creation of additional units; freeze authority can freeze token accounts. Permissions and extensions matter, so do not assume every token has identical settings.

Check the result, not just the form

Review what the wallet is authorizing and verify the confirmed mint address. Check supply, decimals and relevant authorities using the chain data or a suitable explorer. Do not claim a permission has been revoked unless that is actually verified.

If you want a URGE launch, follow the URGE-specific guide rather than creating a separate mint and assuming it can be imported. The launch flow creates the token and associated launch setup together.
